Maps Was County Clare once part of Connaught and if so should it join Connaught again? For Baptista Boazio was commissioned to produce a map of Ireland at the end of the sixteenth century and he placed County Clare in Connaught. Here are some maps from the late 16th / Early 17th Centuries   In these examples the top is pointing West not North.    Ortelius c1573   here is an enlargement of the Connaught region of the above map   Boazio c1610 If you are interested in these maps you could check out Cartographica Neerlandica. Against Some of these maps were copied by artists and perhaps they got it wrong!
